The #BanFracking campaign was launched in 2018 by local communities in the Eastern Cape, South Africa to call for a national ban on fracking in South Africa.
For decades, the oil and gas industry has perpetuated the lie that fracking is “safe,” but we’ve seen the devastating impacts in our communities. Fracking, which involves injecting water deep into the ground to push up oil and gas, also requires disposal of the chemical-heavy wastewater. But these disposals disproportionately harm and impact communities in the Karoo, South Africa, and everywhere. That’s why the Support Centre for Land Change is calling for a national ban on Fracking.
We won’t let up the pressure. We will continue to build the movement we need to build back better. Sign this petition to call on President Cyril Ramaphosa to ban fracking in the Karoo and the rest of South Africa.
