The climate crisis is global, but the most powerful solutions often begin right in our own backyards. In solidarity with 350Africa’s pan-African Afrika Vuka movement, our civil society organisation took to the streets and classrooms to host a dynamic day of community outreach and school-based engagement focused on climate justice and a fair renewable energy transition.
Our mission for the day was simple yet crucial: demystify clean energy, empower the next generation, and ignite localised climate action from the ground up.
Highlights from the Day
1. School & community outreach
We kicked off the day with interactive educational sessions across local schools and community gatherings. Moving away from technical jargon, we led open discussions on why transitioning away from fossil fuels matters for our everyday health and economy—and how accessible, clean energy solutions can transform our neighbourhoods.

2. Youth engagement & localised solutions
Students aren’t just the leaders of tomorrow – they are powerful change makers today. Through guided workshops and Q&A sessions, we explored how localised environmental choices directly influence sustainable development. Young participants connected the dots between renewable energy adoption and a cleaner, fairer future for their immediate communities.
3. Crowning our new green ambassadors
The highlight of the event was the official crowning of our newest cohort of Green Ambassadors. We recognised a group of remarkably dedicated young leaders who have stepped up to champion clean energy and environmental stewardship. These student ambassadors will serve as focal points in their respective schools and neighbourhoods, keeping the momentum alive.
Impact & the road ahead
By bringing the spirit of Afrika Vuka directly to the grassroots level, this initiative proved that meaningful climate action grows when local communities take the lead. By equipping young leaders with hands-on knowledge and appointing dedicated Green Ambassadors, we haven’t just hosted a single event – we’ve established an ongoing platform for student-led advocacy and renewable energy promotion.
