This session focused on how activists across the continent can mobilise and campaign effectively in the face of a global pandemic. The panelist, Joseph Ibrahim of the Coal Free Nigeria Campaign and Ibra Cassis of Save Bargny campaign in Senegal took the participants on a ride of their experiences in digital organizing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For Joseph Ibrahim, he emphasized the importance of establishing the objective of the campaign and how it aligns with existing traditions, culture, religion, and laws of the people. He then stated that these identified objectives should be communicated to the target audience using the most compelling stories.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">He advised activists to place a high premium on telling the truth while telling stories of frontline communities as this will be the basis of a successful campaign.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On his part, Ibra Casis highlighted the demographics of internet users across the globe. He stated that with the number of people who use digital platforms on a daily basis, it will be unwise to disregard digital organizing. He further stated that digital organizing is the future and all activists should embrace it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The panelist proposed a number of tips on digital organizing such as:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Determine a hashtag for the key message of the campaign e.g #CoalFreeNigeria<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Identify the digital platform where your target audience is.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Produce quality visual and audiovisual content for storytelling<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Use social media such as Twitter, Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram and Linkedin to share quality content<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Tag your target audience on your post<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Use online petitions to get people to commit to the campaign<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Publish articles and news items online.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">By Joseph Ibrahim of the Coal Free Nigeria Campaign<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> Effective digital organising: Sharing the highlights of session 4 of the #AfrikaVuka Climate Workshops<\/p>","protected":false},"author":59,"featured_media":2371,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"inline_featured_image":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[3,228,322],"tags":[82,230],"class_list":["post-2370","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-africa","category-avcw","category-post","tag-afrikavuka","tag-afrikavuka-climate-workshops"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.3 -
