The Rise Up Movement in collaboration with 350.org organized a watch party for the Global Just Recovery Gathering event which took place at Kitintale in Kampala, Uganda from the 9th to the 11th of April 2021.The sessions ran from 10 AM to 4 PM EAT during all three days.
We managed to host a total of 60 persons, who fell within the 18 to 35 years age bracket. The audience was very interactive, engaging and also actively took notes.

Some of the key points that were noted were; legal arguments & judgments like public participation, mitigation measures connected with climate change, as well as the fossil fuel industry and infrastructure that is delaying climate action. Furthermore, we got a more detailed insight about the EACOP (East Africa Crude Oil Pipeline), this includes the people behind it such as Total and CNOOC, and got to understand why the fight matters.
There was also a session covering Digital Organizing tools which included social media & email which help in building connections, petitions which help in constantly building awareness and puts pressure on authorities to act, and finally, insights on fundraising.
From our assessment, the event was a success because we had more people join the fight for climate justice. These were people who had no idea about climate change and finally got to learn and understand how important it is to stop the climate from changing and why it is important for them to join the strike. This captured attention, especially internationally, where we had positive feedback from different individuals on how amazing the event was, despite the few challenges we faced like internet connectivity, which at times was unstable.
We extend our gratitude to the team that organized the event for choosing us to host a watch party.
Looking forward to a bigger Just Recovery.
