Afrika Vuka Day (25 May) has become our annual moment to channel Pan‑African solidarity into bold, collective action for climate justice. This year, we are holding a continent‑wide series of online and offline events designed to celebrate community‑powered solutions and demand a swift transition away from fossil fuels.

Spotlight events
Benin – Concert & Mural painting
Through mural painting and a powerful visual photoshoot featuring people in traditional attire, we aim to showcase the resilience, culture, and strength of communities advocating for clean energy.
Nigeria – Cultural heritage
Communicating the REPower Nigeria message using music and dance. This event will bring together youth, women, and men, showcasing the harmony of our culture and inspiring hope for a just transition in Nigeria.
Ghana – RE Awareness Walk
A public awareness walk and campaign advocating for the adoption of renewable energy solutions in the senior high schools to combat climate change and ensure energy justice.
Kenya – REPower Lamu & End Coal
A demonstration followed by a press conference to declare our grievances and articulate our strong opposition to the coal project. Through this action, we aim to raise awareness, and advocate for sustainable development.
Togo – Music & Culture show
A cultural showcase combining theater, dance, slam poetry, music, and video projections, attended by local and national authorities as well as energy experts. The event will act as a platform to advocate for the adoption of renewable energy.
Uganda – Women Against EACOP
Organizing students to campaign for community Energy Justice and create understanding on the need to invest in Renewable Energy Projects that are community based for social economic justice in Uganda.

Africa stands at a pivotal crossroads: the climate crisis is intensifying, yet the continent is also home to some of the world’s most abundant renewable‑energy resources and a vibrant, youth‑driven climate movement. Afrika Vuka Day (25 May), closely aligned with Africa Day, has become our annual moment to channel Pan‑African solidarity into bold, collective action for climate justice.
Right now African climate activists are supporting REPower Afrika – a campaign to speed up the shift away from fossil fuels to distributed, community-led and socially owned renewable energy.
