Last Sunday, I watched in awe as hundreds of young people in Kampala, Uganda came together to demand climate action.
We are seeing a new generation emerge who are owning their moral authority, speaking courageously and demanding justice. Moments like this are good for reflection. Thousands of people don’t mobilize by accident. It is a sign of how far our movement has come in this fight.
As this new generation expands the horizons of possibility, these young people in Uganda just set the tone for a Global Climate Strike that will amplify the call for Africa and the rest of the world to break ties with the fossil fuel industry which is fueling the climate crisis. And I can’t help but get the feeling that it’s only going to get better from here!
Between September 20th to 27th, millions of people of all ages around the world will walk out of their classes, jobs, and homes as part of a Global Climate Strike. There are already over 50 Climate Strikes on the map in Africa. Find out more here.
